Who We Are

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) is a non-governmental organisation committed to the social, health and economic empowerment of the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria. LAPO was founded by Dr. Godwin Eseiwi Ehigiamusoe in 1987 while working as a Rural Cooperative Officer in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State. Over the years, the organisation has demonstrated uncommon commitment to poverty alleviation through the implementation of innovative credit and non-credit empowerment programmes targeting disadvantaged groups. LAPO programmes include gender sensitization aimed at reducing the level of gender inequity and social exclusion and health intervention, which include prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other tropical diseases.

About the Founder

Dr. Godwin Eseiwi Ehigiamusoe is the founder of Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO). An acknowledged microfinance practitioner, he began his engagement in rural finance as a cooperative officer in mid 1980s. He has attended several capacity enhancing courses at Lagos Business School, INSEAD Business School, IESE Business School and Kennedy School of Government and holds a Masters degree in Development Studies. He authored Understanding NGOs (1998); Poverty and Microfinance (2000) and Issues in Microfinance: Enhancing  Financial Inclusion (2011). In 2015, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria.
