LAPO offers rural farmers robust credit and agricultural extension services toward making them self-sufficient in food production.


LAPO grants credit facilities ranging from group loan, asset loan and individual loan to enable farmers in rural communities scale up their farm enterprises. LARDI has consistently recorded excellent performance in its credit operations. The unit disbursed the sum of N934,290,000 to rural farmers 12,391 in year 2012.

Agricultural Extension Services

Our agricultural extension unit promotes the use of efficient farming techniques with farmer-participatory experiments. The Training and Demonstration Centre (TRADEC) which has poultry, piggery and fishery units enhances farmers’ technical skills toward improved income. The combination of our efforts results in enhanced livelihood and increased food production in the country, which in turn ensures food security and progress towards achieving the MDGs of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger.

Farm Enterprise Training

LARDI is currently establishing Training and Demonstration Centre (TRADEC) at Ugha Community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. The centre is expected to provide quality agricultural research services, training and technical skills development that will enhance farmers’ income.

Mentoring of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA)

LAPO mentors Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) who provide health care in rural areas to improve maternal and child health care. TBAs enjoy the confidence of rural community members. They are sensitized on issues such as record keeping, environmental hygiene, universal precautions and referrals to health centres.

Social Commodity Marketing

The social marketing unit identify and promote access of vulnerable community members to essential health-promoting commodities such as water guard®, treated mosquito nets, disinfectants, sanitary products, male and female condoms etc. Social marketing is contributing effectively to health-seeking behaviour, improved health status and the general wellbeing of community members.
